Someone Pinch Us: Connecticut Democrat Shows Modicum of Sanity About Motherhood

Twitchy

Democrats love to talk about how ‘Diversity is our strength.’ Of course, whenever they say this, they mean it in only the most shallow, superficial terms possible. In other words, they mean skin color. Occasionally, they also mean what sex (or, even sillier, 'gender') a person is, or who they like to have sex with, completely irrelevant qualities when discussing a person’s merit.

But what they never mean is diversity of thought. Any deviation from the approved narrative and you will be excommunicated. Just ask Tulsi Gabbard. Hell, the left is even ready to disown John Fetterman, of all people, just because he believes in Israel’s right to exist and defend itself.

But the left may have gone a step too far even for some Democrats with their full embrace of the gender cult.

Last week, the Connecticut legislature was considering HB 5454, a bill to determine how to manage federal funds for mental health care. This was the subtitle of the bill: ‘To maximize federal resources for mental health services for young children, their caregivers and pregnant persons.'

Did you catch that last part? State Rep. Robyn Porter did. And she wasn't having ANY of that.

Porter said that ‘pregnant persons’ is an affront to women, and she was right. Here is some of what she had to say on the topic:

'My children call me mother, ma, mommy. It depends on the day,' Porter said Thursday. 'I don't answer to pregnant person or birthing person. That's not what I answer to.’

'A huge part of my identity is wrapped around being a mother and a grandmother. So I find it an affront that someone would try to tell me that what they're putting on paper for the purpose of policy covers me when I'm telling you that it doesn't,' she continued.’

She added, 'We were mothers first. Yes, times are changing, and I'm fine with that because that's life... But you don't get to grow, and you don't get to talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion and exclude me and the other women like me who identify as mothers. You don't get to do that.'

'You don’t get to do that.' Well said. Except they HAVE been doing that. And it's time to put a stop to it

Porter did just that, successfully amending the bill by a 32-16 vote to use the language ‘expectant mothers.’ Because there is no 'person' who can get pregnant and give birth besides an adult female (a.k.a., a mother).

It really is quite delicious. But wait ... it gets better.

Porter is a black woman representing New Haven. The bill’s leading proponent of ‘pregnant persons,’ Jillian Gilchrist, is a white woman representing West Hartford. In other words, she is a textbook AWFL.

This is how she tried to defend her 'preferred' language:

'Pregnant person is actually the inclusive term,' Gilchrest said. 'It is a gender neutral term, and it would encompass expectant mothers, pregnant women.

'As we talk about DEI, this is the direction we are hoping to move in in this state and ideally across the country.

'And so the term pregnant persons is the more inclusive term, and so I would ask my colleagues to oppose the amendment.'

Yeah, how did that go over, Jillian?

As the 32-16 vote indicated, Porter wasn’t alone in opposing the erasing of women and mothers. And much of her support came from other black or Latino representatives. This is what Geraldo Reyes, a fellow Democrat and Puerto Rican by heritage, had to say:

'Culturally, as a Puerto Rican person, there is nothing more sacred than a mother... There is only one mother … Just as I opposed the word Latinx, I oppose the word expecting person,' he said.

Are you noticing a pattern yet?

That is not 100 percent accurate. There were a couple of legislators of color who didn't want to change from 'pregnant persons' to expectant mothers. But the VAST majority of legislators who voted for ‘pregnant persons’ were white.

If you are looking for reasons – outside the economy – why the Democrat party is hemorrhaging black and Latino voters, look no further than the trans activist mob. Their push to erase gender lines is anathema to those communities and it is starting to show.

We don’t know where Porter stands on many issues. She is a Democrat, so we’ll assume we don’t agree with her on much. But we will give her credit here because she drew a line in the sand against insanity and stood fast on that line saying, ‘NO.’

The gender cult has always hated women and it shows. We’re happy some Democrats are finally noticing.

The fact of the matter is that the Democrat party is completely dependent on minority voters. If they lose even a fraction of that community, they simply cannot win elections.

For decades, Democrats have convinced those minorities, mainly through deception and gaslighting, that they are on their side (and Republicans hate them, of course). It was a very successful strategy, even if none of it was true.

But over the past several years, the left’s embracing of the Marxist trans activist community above all else (not to mention Joe Biden’s destruction of the economy) may finally make the truth sink in that Democrats do not, in fact, care about the black or Latino community. They just want them for their votes.

If even elected Democrats are starting to notice this? That is a huge problem for the party.

We hope they keep ignoring it.
